A report released last month from the Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet, and the Campaign Finance Institute indicates that the Internet is playing an important part in facilitating small donations to political campaigns.

Small donors seem to be using the Internet to make contributions where they wouldn't have in the past. More than 80% of young donors used the Internet to make their contribution. And nearly one third of the over $500 online donors said they did so without being asked, compared to about one quarter of offline donors.
