Phones: More Dangerous Than Cigs?

Mobile phones could kill far more people than smoking or asbestos, a study by an award-winning cancer expert has concluded. He says people should avoid using them wherever possible and that governments and the mobile phone industry must take "immediate steps" to reduce exposure to their radiation.

President Raul Castro's government said Friday it is allowing cell phones for ordinary Cubans, a luxury previously reserved for those who worked for foreign firms or held key posts with the communist-run state.

Ohio to Audit Primary

Ohio's Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner will be conducting a limited audit of the state's March 4 primary election.
Eleven counties have been asked to volunteer for the audit. They would recheck at least 7 percent of the vote by hand. Paper ballots counted by optical scan machines and votes cast on electronic touch-screen machines would be recounted.

Will FCC Punish Comcast?

It seems there have been hints.
Martin didn't say for certain that the FCC would take action against Comcast. But he did say that he was troubled by Comcast's initial denial of slowing or blocking traffic, according to news reports from people who attended the speech. What worried him most was the fact that Comcast wasn't forthcoming to its customers about what it was doing.

Diebold's Accounting Problems

The company hasn't filed a quarterly earnings report since May 2007. The NYT says this might be "a factor" in how it handles the recent unsolicited takeover bid from United Technologies.
